FOOTBALL club Salisbury West has been banished from the Adelaide Footy League after its captain Adam Jones copped a life ban for committing four offences in a single game.
Jones fronted the tribunal on Wednesday night and was found guilty of striking, kicking and undue rough play during last Saturday’s match against Trinity Old.
He was banned for a total of 27 weeks, more than doubling the league’s threshold of 12 weeks before a player is handed a life ban.
The footage of the club skipper’s violent conduct was released through the week to many viewers’ disgust.
A league spokesman said the nine-point win to Salisbury West would not be overturned but the club’s ongoing presence in the finals series was under threat.
“The result of the match will not be reversed, however pending Wednesday night’s outcomes, may require the league to amend the composition of the division six and six reserves finals,” the spokesman told the Northern Weekly Messenger.
Rival club Salisbury North was suspended for the remainder of the season in June when one of its players received an eight-week ban for striking.
Both Salisbury North and Salisbury West had previously been placed on a final warning regarding the poor on-field behaviour of their players. After the June suspension, Salisbury North’s three senior teams were booted from the competition.
The club will also have to reapply for affiliation in 2019.
Adelaide Footy League chief executive John Kernahan told 9 News in Adelaide the player and club would be held to account.
“After repeated failings, we simply arrive at the point where one person can cost the whole club,” Mr Kernahan said.
“And we don’t apologise for that.”
Salisbury West is scheduled to play Rosewater in the division seven second semi-final this Saturday.
Tuesner, who had his jaw broken after being kneed in the head, spoke with 9 News and is awaiting surgery for the injury.
“I got a fracture that goes through the corner of my jaw, goes right through and comes through my last tooth,” he said.
“And I’ve got a corner of my jaw that’s actually separated as well.”
